Over time, as we mature, our beliefs change. That’s exactly what happened to Jay Wilde. He grew up on a farm and has played with cows for as long as he can remember. His grandfather was an engineer and as a child Jay wanted to follow in his footsteps and work for Rolls Rhoyce. However, that dream didn’t come true, so Jay adapted to the lifestyle of his father who ran the farm.
From an early age, Jay was disturbed by the way animals were treated on the farm. It also bothered him that they were slaughtered for food. He recognized that animals have personalities and experience the world. It is difficult for him to disconnect to get work done because he continues to see them as separate individuals.
Katja worked at Bradley Nook Farm for two months when she was a student trying to learn English. There she meets Jay, who expresses to her his discomfort with the slaughter of animals; he wants to betray her. He convinces Katja to stay with him and create something new together.
Katja agrees and leaves city life for a farm life. However, times have changed, and they can’t change it, because things are much more complicated than they imagined. The stress was overwhelming and she had to watch her husband suffer because he was a rancher and he was busy.
Eventually, they decided to go into vegan organic farming and stop raising cattle. But then the topic of cows came up. What do you do with 73 cows after you decide to overhaul your farm? Watch this thought-provoking short film now.
