All Things Are Connected
While our ethical traditions know how to deal with murder and even genocide, those traditions collapse completely in the face of ecocide and biocide.
Today we live in a world of moral confusion and contradiction, a world of sentimentality and brutality.
While modern thinkers have attempted to expand the scope of moral considerations to include other animals, humans have caused more suffering to more creatures than at any point in history.
Is this really what we want to do to creation… knock it down? But extinction is irreversible. Extinct species are lost forever.
This isn’t Jurassic Park – we can’t bring them back! Over the past century, we’ve had an incredible wave of prosperity.
We might have some gut feeling that it’s a carnival and the planet can’t take it, but beyond something as simple as biodegradable laundry detergent or a slightly smaller car, we’re not doing much. We haven’t changed our lives yet.
