America’s Deadliest Weapon
In the history of aviation, there has never been a plane that was more revolutionary than the B-2 Stealth Bomber. Capable of traveling to any location in the world without being observed, the B-2 can land over its target, release its payloads with precision, and have confidence that the bombs will hit their intended targets and that the plane will return home safely. Revolutionary in design and functionality, the B-2 is the culmination of multiple fields and sciences, including aerospace, stealth, and bombing.
Also unique to the B-2 is the distinction that no other conventional aircraft shares – for the entire duration of its flight, the B-2 has never been observed, targeted, or engaged. The B-2 is exclusively utilized by the U.S. Air Force and is the most advanced flying machine ever created.
Its conception was based on 100 years of bombing experience, the evolution of computers, significant advances in engineering, new approaches to aircraft design, and a new class of weapon called a smart bomb.
Among the individuals involved were a visionary American aircraft designer and an unrecognized Soviet physicist. The narrative of the stealth bomber begins during the first days of bombing.
