Back From the Edge provides guidance on treating borderline personality disorder. Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a relatively newcomer to the field of diagnosable mental disorders.
Because of the complexity of the diagnosis, people with this disorder and their families often require multiple support systems.
Symptoms of BPD can come in many combinations, and many, if not all, of people with the disorder include: fear of abandonment, extreme mood swings, difficulty with relationships, unstable self-image, difficulty controlling emotions, impulsive behavior, Behavioral self-harm, suicidal thoughts, brief psychotic episodes.
Furthermore, BPD is rarely isolated and often co-occurs with other disorders, often hampering accurate diagnosis. These can include eating disorders, substance abuse, major depressive disorder, and bipolar disorder.
