The world’s most famous vampire has been undead for over a century. Irish author Bram Stoker‘s famous novel Dracula mixes reality, superstition, macabre fantasy and history.

Stoker’s role model in the novel is a real-life Romanian prince born in the 15th century: Vlad Tepes or Vlad the Impaler, so So called because of his favorite method of executing enemies – the dreaded medieval form of torture known as impalement. Thus, Vlad the Impaler and Count Dracula the Transylvanian Vampire became one forever.

The image of vampires appears in novels, movies, plays, paintings, and even in Roman Polanski’s new musical “Dance of the Vampires.” Travel to the heart of modern Romanian Transylvania in this documentary to uncover the historical truth behind the legend of Dracula.
