Tony Harris takes a first-hand look at downtown Baltimore and the education system that’s failing Black Americans.
Baltimore, Maryland, is known as “The City of Charm” because of its seaport that attracts a vibrant nightlife and booming tourism. But just outside the calm waters of the harbor lies one of the toughest and most violent inner cities in America.
Harris, who is also home to Baltimore, takes us on an up close and personal tour into his old neighborhood to witness the challenges Black youth face today as they work to break the gridlock of street life and leave the inner city.
Most crimes in Baltimore are committed by blacks along with other black victims, making blacks easy targets for police.
Many believe that stereotyping of black children in America begins at an early age — as early as elementary school. In this film, Harris examines how the education system fails black boys and reflects on why he thrives when so many of his friends fail.
