Ernest Shackleton attempted to become the first person to walk across the frozen wasteland of Antarctica in 1914, but he and his 28-man crew were stranded there for nearly two years due to bad weather and mishaps.

Surprisingly, Shackleton and his companions were able to survive, however, they recorded remarkable footage of their ordeal through the camera’s help, as Frank Hurley traveled with Shackleton to film the adventure.

The Endurance: Shackleton’s Legendary Antarctic Expedition, which is based on the book by Caroline Alexander, combines Hurley’s material with new footage that follows Shackleton’s path, this presentation of the story is remarkable because of its portrayal of courage and human survival in the face of adversity. Liam Neeson is in charge of narration.
