The number of faith schools in the UK is increasing. About 7,000 public schools (one third) now have religious affiliations.
As the Coalition government paves the way for more faith-based education by promoting “free schools”, renowned atheist and evolutionary biologist Professor Richard Dawkins says enough is enough.
In this passionately polemical film, Dawkins challenges us to rethink the meaning of faith education, which he argues confuses parents and indoctrinates and divides children.
The film showcases in-depth exchanges with former Education Secretary Charles Clarke, the Reverend Jennina Ainsworth, Head of the Church of England Educational Service, and Dr. Madrasah, President of the Association of Madrasah. Muhammad Muqadam.
It also includes insights from child psychologists and key players in faith education, as well as insights from parents and students.
Dawkins also cited his own personal story as a father, arguing that the government must stop funding new faith schools and urging society to respect children’s right to freedom of belief.
