The UK remains the world leader. In fact, it holds 20 percent of the world market, second only to the United States. The industry is considered so important by the government that it absorbs almost half of all R&D funding. Oddly enough, it produces not consumer goods that people want, but machines that few of us use or want to use. Furthermore, its future, regardless of its supremacy, is uncertain and depends largely on secret deals with some of the most corrupt and brutal regimes on Earth. One of the largest UK manufacturing industries at the end of the century was ARMS.

John Pilger and David Munro delve behind the scenes of political rhetoric and discover the world of the international arms trade. Bronze Apple Award in the National and International Attention category, National Educational Film and Video Festival, Oakland, CA, 1995; Honorable Mention, International Relations, Chris Award (Columbus International Film Festival), Worthington, OH, 1995.
