Filmmaker Suzanne Khardalian embarks on her own family history journey to investigate the horrific truth behind her grandmother’s strange tattoos, uncovering the story of an Armenian woman deported from Ottoman Turkey during World War I.

During World War I, millions of Armenians were deported from their homeland in what was then the Ottoman Empire to the deserts of Syria and Iraq.

More than a million people have been killed in what Armenians say is a genocide, although Turkey denies the allegation.

Everyone in the family seemed to know the story, but no one ever brought it up.
