Guarding the Queen

For the first time, cameras have been permitted to record behind the royal palaces’ historic scenes and hidden areas of the Grenadier Guards.

The Grenadier Guards are the most senior regiment of infantry in the British Army. They are most likely best remembered as one of the five regiments of Foot Guards that stand in reserve outside of Buckingham Palace every day or night.

It’s simple to overlook – as you observe them changing the rank to the sound of a military band – that this regiment has also participated in almost every major conflict in British history to this day.

The Custodians of the Queen chronicles the lives of these celebrated warriors from a unique perspective.

Major Thorold Youngman Sullivan’s role is to oversee the left side of the platoon, and Sgt Major Steve Munro’s job is to maintain the regiment’s disciplined nature.

The Guards on official duty are in London practicing for Trooping the Colour alongside their regimental counterparts, the Coldstream Guards.
