Described as the most dangerous race in the world, the Isle of Man TT is a complex and unforgiving circuit. But every year more and more motorcycle enthusiasts flock to the small British island to take part in the event. Is this some kind of fatal attraction?
It is a three-hour ferry ride from Liverpool to Douglas, the capital of the Isle of Man, a self-governing British Crown Dependency.
Year after year, at the end of May, more than 25,000 people make their way to the small island in the middle of the Irish Sea, some 70 kilometers off the coast of England. The TT race has claimed nearly 150 lives in its 105-year history, and the track itself has claimed more than 250 lives.
Most of the drivers are amateurs with full-time jobs, a far cry from the huge sums of grand prix, and it’s a very expensive business for them.
