Kingdom of David: The Israelite Saga, originally intended as a four-part miniseries, debuted in the United States as a two-part PBS special May 14-21, 2003. Narrated by Keith David, the voices of the characters are impressive and the celebrity cast is dedicated to the thesis project that Israel and the Jewish faith “have changed human history as much as any empire that has ever existed”.
In an age of polytheism, persecution and massacres due to monotheism, the Davidic kingdom remained unified and solvent by disseminating in writing the history and traditions of its elders (“biblical religion”).
Topics explored include the origins of Jewish law, the origins of their customs, and the moral values they strongly held and strictly enforced. The playlist below contains individual episodes, each approximately 55 minutes long: “Babylon,” “The Book and the Sword,” “The Last Days,” and “The Gift of the Jews.” Photograph the Kingdom of David as much as possible in the exact places where the historical events described here took place.
