The Koch Brothers are puppets of the richest 1%. Their money and power have fueled growing inequality in America. They are the most powerful people, they suppress the working class and the middle class, they trample the poor. For more than 50 years, the Koch family has defined the life of the average, low-key American working man. They inherited their wealth and penchant for secrecy from their father, Fred, who made his fortune in the Soviet oil business in the 1930s.

Stalin himself brought Fred Koch to the Soviet Union to build pipelines and taught them how to be petroleum engineers. Fred returned to the United States after taking the money from the Soviet Union, and used the money to build his own oil empire in the United States, amassing about $200 million. Armed with his wealth and power, he began a systematic attack on American values, including funding the John Birch Society. This is a far-right racist organization that peddles communist conspiracy theories. They even accused President Dwight Eisenhower of being a Soviet spy.

Fred Koch opposed the civil rights movement, saying it was a communist threat and that white children should not go to school with black children because it would lead to racial mixing. This is the climate where brothers Charles and David grew up at home and then they inherited a fortune from their dad Fred and they invested that money into their own organization and built it into what it is today What it looks like—a $100 billion-a-year company.

Koch Industries is the second largest private company in the country. They own assets ranging from oil and gas to paper products, forestry, consumer goods, plastics and livestock. They do business in 45 states. The important thing is not that they are rich, but that they use their wealth to be cruel to the American people.
