A rare glimpse into the embattled Gaza Strip and a chance to learn about life under Hamas rule. In 2007, VICE attempted unsuccessfully to enter Gaza through the Israeli-controlled Erez Crossing.
At the time, rival Palestinian factions Hamas and Fatah were waging a bloody war for control of the tiny territory.
Hamas won. When Egypt’s post-Mubarak government decided to let a small number of people enter Gaza through the Rafah crossing, VICE knew they would finally have access to the area.
