This fascinating personal documentary in English and Dutch with English subtitles follows Dutch journalist/filmmaker Michael Sharp from interviews with his own mother, circumcision, politicians, Jews, Muslims, a restored Briton and some American events home story.
From the author: “I am a Dutch born male who came to Canada in 1981. In most European countries circumcision is only for religious reasons.
In 1989 I married a wonderful Canadian girl and in February 1992 we had our first son. Although my wife had never seen an uncircumcised penis before marriage, she considers circumcision without a medical reason a form of abuse.
My in-laws made some comments, but after talking to them, they also realized that there was no reason for our son to be circumcised, or even a need for the child to be circumcised.
We adopted a son in December 1992, and the first question we asked was, “Do you want him circumcised?” Of course, our answer was no.
The world’s perception of circumcision needs to change. Most would agree that removing a woman’s clitoral hood is a form of abuse. Male amputation of the glans makes no difference.
Thank you and please continue to raise awareness about involuntary circumcision. “
