The organic craze has seeped into the grocery aisles and the tables of conscientious eaters, but does it really matter? As it grows in popularity, reviewers wonder if we can trust this brand of bio-friendly food breeding. Organic Food: Hype or Hope? Examining the future of an industry could be marred by fraudulent labeling and lackluster accountability measures.

Consumers who choose organic must pay a higher premium. Many of them are willing to buy because they are marketed with the promise of a more natural product without artificial ingredients, harmful additives or toxic pesticides. The movie contains information that may upset these creature lovers.

There are currently no tests that can accurately distinguish organic food from food grown using conventional farming techniques. Therefore, there is no guarantee that the organic produce at your local grocer will meet the high standards stated on the label. Can we trust these foods to be completely free of harmful substances?

Pesticides break down slowly, and their traces can remain in soil and groundwater for years. A recent study of the organic produce shown in the movie showed worrying levels of pesticide exposure. In one case, an organic fennel farmer in Germany was shocked to learn that his product contained unacceptable traces of pesticides. Its fennel is used in baby food.

One of the film’s core concerns is the concept of sustainability. Consumers aren’t the only ones feeling the pinch of the organic economy. Organic farming companies must also take more cautious and costly steps. The industry is finding more efficient and cost-effective ways of doing business as they struggle to meet increasing consumer demand while adhering to stringent regulations.

Theoretically, this film has great use in the production and consumption of organic food. Going organic can curb pollution, the occurrence of common health problems, and rampant animal cruelty and neglect. Organic Food: Hype or Hope? Some concerns that could hinder the integrity of the movement before it becomes the norm were highlighted.
