Soldier Child
Since 1990, the people of Northern Uganda have witnessed in horror the abduction of tens of thousands of children from their homes and their subsequent transportation to Sudan, where they were later recruited as soldiers in a rebel army.
Acholi rebel leader Joseph Kony takes children from the Acholi and brainwashes them, he then forces them to commit atrocities against their families and friends.
Filmmaker Neil Abramson documents the plight of children in war-torn northern Uganda in this powerful documentary. Documenting the savagery and horror that children are forced to endure as they are taken from their homes and forced into the LRA, Soldier Child chronicles the torture, rape, starvation, and brainwashing that children are subjected to.
Through monochromatic photographs and on-camera interviews, the occurrences at GUSCO – the facility dedicated to those who have escaped their captors – are documented. You’ll read selected accounts of the victims of atrocity, including a moving account of a young boy whose feet are so swollen from participating in the army that he can’t walk anymore, and a teenage girl who gave birth as a result of being raped by LRA soldiers.
