Srebrenica: A Cry from the Grave
Srebrenica, Bosnia, was the first United Nations-sanctioned safe zone in the world. This area was the scene of the most extreme genocide in Europe since World War II.
In July 1995, the Bosnian Serb army invaded the small, intimate spa town and its surrounding area with brutal intent.
Over a span of five days, the Bosnian Serb soldiers separated Muslim families and systematically killed over 7,000 men and boys in fields, schools, and warehouses.
Bill Moyers narrated the film, this compelling presentation features previously unreleased footage and personal accounts of the 1995 Bosnian massacre.
It chronicles the killings’ progression over the course of an hour. Through the testimonies of those who survived and those who knew someone who died, the documentary explores the agony of not having those responsible brought to justice.
There are interviews with investigators from The Hague’s court that are sponsored by the United Nations, as well as the special prosecutor. However, the actual message of the movie is profound: no matter how hard one tries, it will never be enough.
A Cry from the Grave has received numerous awards. It has been demonstrated at the UN, and it was part of a The Hague war crimes trial.
