Super Size Me director Morgan Spurlock has a brilliant idea for his debut feature as a documentary filmmaker.
His experiment of eating only three McDonald’s a day for 30 days provides an interesting and occasionally disturbing narrative thread, offering an informative and engaging tangent about the disturbing obesity trend in American culture.
Although the prose in the voice-over occasionally shows Spurlock’s amateurishness, the editing and quality of his interviews more than makes up for it.
Spurlock absorbs the work of Michael Moore and manages to strike the same complex balance of laughs, shock and message that makes Moore’s film entertaining, though Spurlock is more than angry.
