The future of globalization is no longer exclusively a Westernized construction. In fact, the economic fate of the world will soon be determined by China. China’s world order focuses on the country’s ambitious efforts to reshape the global economy.
The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund may no longer be the most influential players in international finance. In 2015, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank was established to finance revolutionary Chinese-led infrastructure projects. Dubbed the Belt and Road Initiative, the project will open the door to unprecedented avenues for world trade and put China at the center of it all. Many countries have already joined, including France, Germany, the Netherlands, Iran, Turkey and Pakistan. Much to the chagrin of the US, the UK joined in.
What is China’s ultimate motivation? How do they achieve their goals? Unlike the US, they are not purely monetary driven, nor do they follow the long-accepted Western model. They have no interest in coercing opposing nations into their cause. If the U.S. continues to despise their efforts, they will be content to move on without U.S. support and set an example that other nations would love to follow.
