Since there are no objective medical tests to determine who has ADD or ADHD, doctors rely in part on standardized assessments and impressions from teachers and guardians, and the tests they perform rarely take into account other causes or complicating factors, such as diet or environment.

Thus, children or adolescents are often diagnosed with ADD or ADHD, although the organic basis of these two disorders has not been clinically proven. Psychiatrists can then prescribe psychiatric drugs to children without first making parents aware that the drugs can cause serious side effects, including insomnia, loss of appetite, headaches, psychotic symptoms, and potentially fatal side effects such as heart arrhythmias.

Yet despite these dangers, many school systems do cooperate with government agencies to force parents to drug their children, threatening those who refuse that their children may be removed from their homes if they do not cooperate.
