Uganda is the wine capital of Africa. A popular liquor made by the locals is called waragi. The Vice team will do something, have a drink, and hopefully not be blind.
In 2004, the World Health Organization released the Global Status Report on Alcohol and Health, which found Uganda to be the leading competitor in the world’s per capita alcohol consumption.
This number has been rising since 2011, making Uganda essentially the most drunk place on earth. When Vice heard that Uganda was producing a moonshine called Waragi across the country, they were intrigued.
But after discovering that people were blinded and dying from drinking waraj cut with industrial chemicals, they knew it was something they had to try for themselves.
