It was the most ambitious construction project ever attempted in human history. His story is almost impossible to tell — until now.

Based on stunning new archaeological discoveries and extraordinary first-person narration, The Great Wall of China tells the story of one of the world’s greatest wonders. It is more than 3,000 miles long and was built in just 20 years by nearly 2 million workers using techniques and construction techniques that are still astounding today.

His architectural story, a story of human drama, labor and loss, is told in this film through three characters, each of whom plays a central role in the story. Thirteen-year-old Emperor Muzong, whose kingdom is being pushed to the brink of destruction by invading Mongol warriors, demands a wall that can never be breached again.

General Qi Jiguang, military hero and engineering genius, is tasked with leading the largest workforce ever seen on Earth. As a soldier, Zhou Li was forced to work under unimaginably difficult conditions, but finally found refuge and peace under the shadow of the Great Wall.
