The greatest animal migration on earth

We embark on an African escapade, venturing towards the renowned Serengeti. Join us as we witness the grandest animal migration on Earth, where millions of wildebeest embark on a long journey from Tanzania to Kenya. This voyage into the unknown introduces the wildebeest to a diverse array of neighbors, including spotted and striped companions who join them on their 1,000-kilometer march.

Sadly, not all travel acquaintances have good intentions, especially for those who become separated from the group. The great wildebeest migration exemplifies the unforgiving cycle of life and death. However, at present, tranquility reigns, transforming the plains into a playground for the 200,000 migrating zebras. Occasionally, zebras and lions even share similar thoughts.

Vultures always find an abundance of food during the wildebeest migration. Nearby, it appears that hyenas are enjoying a cozy siesta, but one should never underestimate them. Despite their innocent facade, their notorious reputation is well-deserved.

It is time for the wildebeest to continue their journey, and we are here to witness it firsthand. The herd stretches out, spanning an impressive 40 kilometers. For many young animals, this serves as their first test of strength. Their initial destination is the dusty riverbank, where they aim to cross the river. However, an obstacle stands in their way—the river is occupied by hippos. While hippos are herbivores, their massive size makes it wise to wait until the “swimming pool” is vacant once more.

The herd swiftly presses forward, leaving no room for delay. While some animals find a suitable spot to leap into the water, the majority make their way towards the steep banks. Unfortunately, one young animal falls behind and becomes separated from the group. Weary, it steps into the muddy water to cross, but the herd does not wait for stragglers.
