The Murder of Fred Hampton

The Murder of Fred Hampton began as a film portrait of Hampton and the Illinois Black Panthers, but midway through filming, Hampton was murdered by a Chicago police officer.

In one infamous moment in Chicago history and politics, a dozen police officers stormed Hampton’s apartment while the residents were sleeping, killing Hampton and Mark Clark the panther, and insulting other residents.

Filmmakers McGray and Howard Alker arrived hours later to film crime scene footage that was later used to refute news reports and police statements.

“You can imprison a revolutionist, but you cannot imprison a revolution… You can murder a freedom fighter like Bobby Hunton, but you cannot murder a freedom struggle.” – Fred Hampton.

Recently restored and revised by Gray, the murder of Fred Hampton is a gruesome piece of American history.
