McAfee Antivirus may be more popular in traditional circles than its creator, John McAfee, but only because he’s such an interesting character, and his particular personality may turn out to be more popular in unorthodox circles. Being a tech guru sounds like it would automatically make him an interesting guy, but McAfee is more than just eccentric. This feature delves into some of the key highlights of his Front Page life and reveals the man’s profile.
Before founding his own technology company, McAfee was occasionally a regular drug user. We get to see some of his funny experiences, as well as one particularly life-changing encounter while he was on drugs, which may or may not permanently change his perception of reality. After finding a way to attend AA meetings, he sobered up and started living a more typical life, at least for a while.
He then founded the company that bears his name. His employees have spoken many times about the culture he cultivated there, which is not normal. Still, he quickly sold his stake in the company to pursue more interesting pursuits.
After starting his company, he embarked on a journey from consulting on startups, speaking, founding other startups, and writing books, to finally fleeing the government in Belize. His offenses have been numerous, ranging from being involved in murder to possessing illegal weapons. There was even an assassination attempt on him while he was in Belize. Despite the controversy, he is legally running for president of the United States in the 2020 election.
