This is one of the greatest stories of all time. The legend of Helen of Troy has fascinated audiences for the past three thousand years. A Hollywood film starring Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom is due to be released in the UK this May. But is there any use for this myth? Horizon has an answer with scientists like never before.
Prof. Manfred Korfmann has been excavating the Troja site since 1988. He has not spoken for a long time. He made startling discoveries – how big the city was, how well defended it was, and most importantly, that a great battle had been fought there when experts believed the Trojan War was taking place.
But who attacked the city and why?
Horizon then traced the trail of clues—ancient tablets written by lost civilizations, sunken ships laden with rich treasures, and the resplendent golden masks and bronze swords of warrior nations. The film climaxes in the tunnels deep beneath Troy, where Korfmann makes a discovery that may reveal the truth behind the myth once and for all.
The resulting story is about great passion – but clearly not about love.
