Thieves by Law or Ganavim Ba Hok is a documentary documenting the rise of organized crime in Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The film interviews several high-profile criminals, some of whom are currently wanted by Interpol.
The word “thief” was coined in the 1930s to refer to top figures in Russia’s criminal world.
Some say it may have something to do with the “chekists” or the early Soviet Secret Service (later the KGB).
At first, the thieves follow strict guidelines: the thieves will spend time in prison, have no rights to a home, registered address or property, and can only survive by criminal means.
