Undercity: New York City Urban Exploration

As an urban historian and photographer, Steve Duncan seeks to peel back layers of cities to see what lies beneath.

From the tops of bridges to the depths of sewer tunnels, these explorations of urban environments help him uncover the interconnected, multidimensional histories and complexities of the world’s metropolises.

Norwegian explorer Erling Kagge, 47, has scaled Mount Everest and trekked to the North and South Poles.

The duo enters a new realm: the extended exploration of dungeons, where they live in underground infrastructure and sleep on trails, so to speak.

“The opportunity to see New York from the inside out in a way that no one else can is is as inspiring to me as going to Poland and climbing Mount Everest,” – Mr. Kagge.
