In the early 1900s, gangsters turned British racecourses into battlegrounds. A Birmingham gang known as the Brummagems reign supreme and have built a criminal network far beyond their city. The Brummagems made their fortunes through extortion at the racetrack, relentlessly defeating rivals in order to protect their territories.
More than 80 years later, in 2003, another Birmingham gang shocked the nation by murdering innocent bystanders, but behind the guise of a random shootout was a complex vendetta between the two gangs that involved rivalry, ego and rivalry. Loyalty to the gang, and even love for one’s own family prevails.
In this documentary we look at gangs old and new in Birmingham, the UK’s second largest city, to see how gang crime has evolved and what is being done to combat it. Follow the stories of two groundbreaking gang attacks and the brave men who risked their lives to bring those responsible to justice
