Why Big Oil Conquered the World
Environmentalists have long protested oil companies’ role in deepening the climate crisis. Their voices have rocked some of the world’s most powerful leaders, inspired meaningful reform, and fueled a desire for more clean energy solutions. This has led many to believe that the era of the oil powerhouse is coming to an end. But his reign has only just begun, according to the feature-length documentary “Why Big Oil Is Conquering the World.” The movie theorizes that the industry is actually based entirely on the principle of exercising power over people. So far, oil has been the means to that end.
This thesis begins with eugenics, a Darwin-inspired movement in favor of genetic engineering and breeding new generations with only the most desirable human traits. Many members of the elite supported the study and practice of eugenics, including John Rockefeller Jr., and their goals soon became more sinister. They proposed the isolation, containment and total control of “abnormal” populations such as the disfigured, the uneducated and the impoverished. They support the right to decide who lives and who dies.
Their methods may have changed over the years — and their harsh words have softened — but their ultimate goal remains the same. They just adopted a more sophisticated PR image. At the same time, the masses are unaware of their ulterior motives. The oil oligarchs have even tried to hijack the environmental movement, distorting the conservation message by proposing population control as a means of reducing the carbon footprint. In recent years, her vocal support for the Paris climate agreement has proven equally dubious. Can the culprits behind our current environmental disaster really be trusted to save us from it?
At times, the movie feels like a sci-fi horror flick, but it offers plenty of footage and extensive research to back up its wildest claims. Direct quotes and vocal bytes in front of the camera have proven especially detrimental to the powerful characters at the heart of these schemes.
Whether you buy into the film’s premise wholeheartedly or are skeptical of many of its allegations, Why Big Oil Conquered the World offers plenty of food for thought.
