Will Work For Free

What is the greatest threat to humanity that you can imagine? Pollution, disease, natural disasters, terrorism, crime, drugs…? But have we ever thought about our basic survival needs? Usually we don’t have to because luckily we have a system. It’s a system where you can find work and work for money, and of course provide food, water and shelter. It’s good that we have this system because without money you’re dead.

But if you don’t have a job, don’t worry because we have a system again. If you lose your job for any reason, simply apply for government assistance. Everyone with a job pays taxes, and since the government knows that some level of unemployment is to be expected, it just diverts some of that tax money and hands it over to those without jobs through a magical process called redistribution. Wondering if this is the solution to unemployment, where is the bar? What level of unemployment is sustainable? What would happen if all those jobs suddenly disappeared?

This isn’t the first time job losses have threatened the system. Twenty years ago, 10% of the UK population was unemployed. It was one of the worst recessions in its history and turbulent. In 1993, however, the unemployment rate turned around. Somehow, jobs came back and things got better. This growth and employment was exactly what they needed, but only until 2001. Then rates stagnate and rise again.

In 2009 it was again 8%. But it is reassuring that recent unemployment trends have slowed since then, or at least would have been reassuring if the rise in part-time employment hadn’t been nearly in sync with the decline in full-time employment. time occupied. More people are technically out of work, and the unemployment rate falsely suggests a slight slowdown in unemployment. In effect, available jobs are shrinking and the economy is deteriorating.
