World War A: When Aliens Attack

An interesting mix of sound scientific observation and doomsday speculation, World War I: When Aliens Strike tries to construct the scenarios most likely to result from aliens visiting our planet.

Is there any scientific basis for such an event? The film makes a compelling case based on insights from astrophysicists, researchers, historians, military defense experts, and others.

The quest for intelligent life has remained constant throughout our modern history, and several important discoveries have been made in recent years. Scientists are so confident that Mars has the elements needed to support microbial life — a solid surface and evidence of water — they’ve discovered the existence of an exoplanet in the farthest reaches of our galaxy. Basically, they think it’s foolish to assume we’re the only intelligent species in an infinite universe.

The film speculates that if intelligent alien species visit us, they must have more advanced technological capabilities than our own. Because of this, they are likely to be viewed as a threat that we can reasonably assume has the potential to destroy our planet. How can we prepare for this threat? Where can we find shelter, food, supplies and weapons of a certain caliber to ensure our survival? Other characters portrayed in the film are less convinced that the alien visit is hostile.

Regardless of their intentions, many experts agree that intelligent extraterrestrial life forms may be searching our planet just as we are looking for them, and they may have a significant head start.

The documentary combines on-camera interviews, informative cosmic animation and cinematic drama, complemented by stunning visuals.

World War I: When Aliens Strike works best when it focuses on the ongoing efforts to discover planets like our own. Earth has many properties that support life, and astrophysicists are tasked with finding other planets with similar habitable conditions. Some viewers may be surprised to learn that they’ve singled out several potential prospects.
