Yugoslavia: The Avoidable War

If anyone doubts that now is the time to take a clear and critical eye on Western meddling in the Balkans, consider this: U.S.-backed forces in Bosnia and Kosovo have been, and still are, closely linked to al-Qaeda — the Osama-aligned Osama bin Laden network.

In early 1993, bin Laden himself was a frequent visitor to the office of Bosnian President Alija Izetbegovic, when the U.S. government touted his commitment to moderation and multi-ethnic cooperation.

Yugoslavia: This avoidable war is a powerful argument that Western support for separatists led directly to war. “The intelligence community agrees that if you recognize Bosnia, it will explode,” said George Kenney of the State Department.

So, why did the United States provoke a four-year brutal war? How did we end up standing with Osama bin Laden in Bosnia and Kosovo? News anchors and columnists continue to call Kosovo an American victory, but the documentary shows the region is more divided and dangerous than it was when NATO bombed the country in March 1999.
